Privacy Policy — Handicap Scorer
Last updated 21 August 2026
Handicap Scorer ("the app") is a handicap tennis scoring app for Apple Watch, with an optional iPhone companion. This policy explains what data the app touches and why.
Summary
Handicap Scorer does not collect, transmit, or share your personal data with anyone — including us. Everything it stores stays on your own devices.
What the app stores, and where
- Match setup, presets, and settings (team names, handicaps, haptics/announcement preferences) are stored locally on your device using iOS/watchOS's standard local storage (
UserDefaults). This data never leaves your device except to sync between your own paired Apple Watch and iPhone, described below. - In-progress match state is stored locally so the app can recover your score if it's interrupted (e.g. the Watch app is suspended mid-match). This is working state only — it's cleared automatically once a match ends or a new one starts. The app keeps no history of past matches.
Watch ↔ iPhone sync
If you use both the Watch and iPhone apps, they sync match setup, presets, settings, and the live score directly between your own paired devices using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. This is on-device pairing, not an internet connection — nothing is sent to any server, and nothing is shared with any third party.
Health data
If you use the Watch app to score a match, it briefly starts an Apple Health workout session (a standard mechanism watchOS provides third-party apps for staying on screen during an activity, rather than reverting to the watch face). As a result, each scored match is logged in the Health app as a tennis workout. This workout data:
- Is only ever used to keep the score visible during your match — the app doesn't read it back, analyze it, or use it for anything else
- Is never used for advertising, marketing, or any purpose beyond this app's own functionality
- Stays within Apple's Health app and your iCloud account (if you have Health data sync enabled) — Handicap Scorer never transmits it anywhere itself
You can review or delete this workout data at any time in the Health app, and you can decline the Health permission prompt entirely — the app still scores matches normally without it; it just won't stay on screen automatically between points.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no sign-in
- No advertising or analytics SDKs of any kind
- No location, camera, microphone, contacts, or photo library access
- No network calls to any server we or anyone else operates
- No tracking, and no data is ever used to track you across other apps or websites
Data deletion
Since nothing is stored anywhere but your own devices, deleting the app (or, for Health workout data, deleting it from the Health app) deletes everything.
